Difference between reach and RoHS

I. distinguish them from the concepts of ROHS certification and reach certification

1. The full name of RoHS directive is the restriction of hazardous substances. The standard has been officially implemented since July 1, 2006. It is mainly used to standardize the material and process standards of electronic and electrical products, so as to make it more conducive to human health and environmental protection. The purpose of this standard is to eliminate lead (PB), mercury (Hg), cadmium (CD), hexavalent chromium (Cr6 +), polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in motor and electronic products; Latest news on June 4, 2015: the European Union issued the RoHS 2.0 revision directive, officially adding four kinds of toxic and harmful substances (DEHP, BBP, DBP and DiBP) to the RoHS 2.0 control scope. With the four new restrictions, there are 10 kinds of toxic and harmful substances.

2. Reach regulation is the abbreviation of EU regulation regulation concerning the registration, evaluation, authorization and restriction of chemicals. It is a chemical supervision system established by the EU and implemented on June 1, 2007. As of December 19, 2016, the SVHC list detected by reach was 173 items, which was not listed because of the excessive number.

2、 The difference between them and RoHS products

1. RoHS directive is mainly aimed at electronic and electrical products (then products can be tested according to customer needs), metal and ceramic materials to detect 4 harmful substances and non-metal to detect 6 harmful substances! It is a mandatory regulation of the EU, that is, products sold in the EU market must pass the ROHS test!

2. REACH regulations cover almost all products (except food and drugs) and are also mandatory environmental protection regulations of the EU, that is, relevant products are required to meet REACH regulations in addition to RoHS regulations!

3、 Distinguish RoHS and reach from their actual detection methods

1. RoHS directive generally directly carries out chemical analysis on homogeneous materials, or carries out chemical analysis on materials exceeding or close to the limit after scanning with XRF scanning equipment. Generally, mixed testing of multiple materials is not accepted.

2. Reach regulation due to the continuous increase of SVHC (substances of high concern), the number of substances of high concern to be detected has increased to 173 by December 19, 2016, so the detection cost is very high. In this way, for finished products with many materials, such as televisions, the method of grouping and mixed testing of multiple materials can be used to detect and report. At present, this method is accepted in the market.

4、 Distinguish RoHS and reach from each other by issuing reports and certificates

1. RoHS directive has been incorporated into the EU compulsory certification CE. Generally, it is only necessary to obtain the test report. However, if customers need certificates, they can also issue CE certificates.

2. REACH regulations only have test reports and no certificates.

Summary: ROHS directive and reach regulation are two different environmental protection regulations of the EU, and their testing items, contents and methods are different! In addition, reach requires notification and registration (rarely required), while RoHS does not. RoHS and reach are mandatory in the EU. Relevant products sold to the EU need to meet both RoHS directives and reach regulations.
