Function of ultra fast recovery diode — SUNMATE

Function of ultra fast recovery diode

Ultra fast recovery diode (abbreviated as fred) is a semiconductor diode with good switching characteristics and ultra short reverse recovery time. It is often used as a freewheeling, absorption, clamping, isolation, output and input rectifier for the switching devices of high-frequency inverter, so that the functions of the switching devices can be fully exerted. Ultra fast recovery diode is an indispensable device for high frequency (above 20 khz) and solid-state development of high frequency equipment.

Function of ultra fast recovery diode

As the operating switching frequency of the device increases, without fred as a freewheeling, absorption, clamping, isolation, output and input rectifier for the switching devices of the high-frequency inverter, igbt, power mosfet and other switching devices cannot play their functions and unique roles. This is due to the effect of fred's switching characteristic parameters (reverse recovery time t, reverse recovery charge q, reverse peak current i).

Fred with the best parameters works in coordination with the high-frequency switching devices, so that the over-voltage spike, high-frequency interference voltage and emi caused by switching device commutation in the high-frequency inverter circuit are minimized, and the functions of the switching devices are fully exerted.
